Lying Chest Press Machine
The lying chest press machine is a guided press where you lie on your back and push handles upward over your chest, like a bench press with a fixed path. The flat, supported position takes balance and leg drive out of the movement, so the chest, front delts and triceps do all the pressing work.

What muscles does the lying chest press machine work?
Primary movers
- Pectoralis major
- Triceps brachii
Assisting muscles
- Anterior deltoid
- Serratus anterior
The pecs push the handles upward and the triceps finish the extension. The movement is almost identical to a bench press with the balance removed.
Lying flat keeps your back supported and your lower body out of the movement. The chest has to do the work without help from the legs or hips.
Compared with a seated chest press, the lying version feels closer to a bench press and lets you use gravity in a familiar way. Some machines let you start from a deeper stretch.
Because the path is guided, you can train to failure without a spotter. It is a good choice for beginners and for lifters returning from injury.

The fix: Set the start so the handles are at mid-chest.
Shrugging

Bouncing

The fix: Lower slowly and press smoothly.
